Why I Developed Group Ride Alert

I developed Group Ride Alert after riding in group bike and recumbent trike rides where communication can sometimes be difficult. On a group ride, riders can get stretched out, voice callouts may not reach everyone, and important messages like “Car Back,” “Slowing,” “Stopping,” or “Need Assistance” can be missed.

The goal of Group Ride Alert is simple: help riders stay connected and aware during a ride without needing special hardware. A ride leader creates a ride, riders join with a short code, and everyone can send or hear important spoken alerts from their phone.

This app is being built from real ride experience, not just theory. Each test ride helps me find ways to make the app more practical, safer, and easier to use.

Reducing Accidental Alerts

During real group ride testing, I noticed that it can be easy to accidentally press an alert button while scrolling the screen, switching tabs, or handling the phone during a ride.

To help prevent false alerts, I added a new confirmation step. When a rider taps an alert button, the button now asks them to tap again to send. This helps make sure alerts are intentional before they go out to the group.

This should cut down on accidental alerts while still keeping the app quick and simple when riders really need to send a message.
